Ways to Give

There are many ways you can support World Learning's efforts to empower the next generation of leaders. Click below to expand each section and learn how you can make a difference.

Be an essential part of our success by making an unrestricted gift that supports World Learning and our core programs. In ways big and small, World Learning prepares people to be engaged citizens of the world, and to take action on the most pressing global issues of our times. Your unrestricted gift allows us to accomplish our goals year after year.

Express your support, respect, gratitude, or love for a special person in your life with a tribute gift to World Learning. A charitable donation in lieu of a purchased gift is a lasting way to honor friends and family on special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, or holidays. Memorial donations are a thoughtful and caring way to express sympathy and help us make a global impact.

If you wish, the individual you specify will receive a notification card of your thoughtfulness. The amount of your gift is not disclosed, but your address is included so that the recipient may contact you to acknowledge the gift. For gifts above $1,000 you may include a personalized note.

Give online. (Be sure to check the appropriate box to signify whether your gift is in honor or in memory of someone.)

One of the easiest ways to increase your gift to World Learning is by giving it through your employer's matching gift program. Many companies and organizations, including foundations, nonprofits, and associations, match employees’ charitable contributions—sometimes for as much as double the amount of the initial gift.

To make a matched gift:

Contact your Human Resources office to find out if your organization matches employee donations. If your organization does not currently match employee donations, you might suggest they consider doing so. Obtain a matching gift form and review the program guidelines to ensure that World Learning is eligible to receive the matching gift. Conditions and criteria for gift matching can vary by employer. Complete the donor section of the form and submit it, along with your check or credit card authorization, to:

World Learning
1 Kipling Road, PO Box 676
Brattleboro, VT 05302-0676 USA
800 257-7751

We will verify receipt and return the form to your company for matching funds.

For more information or questions about matching gifts, please email giving@worldlearning.org or call Tom Navin at 802 258-3173.

Appreciated stocks and bonds are a popular way of giving to World Learning. This is because they are simple gifts and can offer you a greater tax benefit than you would have with a cash equivalent.

Using appreciated assets you have held for 12 months or longer entitles you to a charitable deduction for the fair-market value of the donated asset, and you can avoid paying capital gains tax you would otherwise pay upon the sale of the appreciated securities. This tax deduction may be up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income, and any amount over this limit may be carried forward for five years.

Making the transfer is simple:

A donor advised fund (DAF) is a charitable account, sponsored by a public charity, which you can use to support World Learning and your other favorite causes. Once you have established a DAF, there are several benefits:

  • You can recommend grants to World Learning and its programs.
  • You can also advise the participating sponsoring organization (Fidelity Charitable , Schwab Charitable, or the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, to date) on the investment strategy for the charitable assets.
  • Any investment growth is tax free to you.
  • You have the option of being acknowledged for your contribution or remaining anonymous.

Well-managed gift planning can increase the size of your estate, provide you with more current income, and allow you to give generously to World Learning today and in the future.

The Infinity Club is a special group of supporters who have included World Learning, The Experiment in International Living, SIT Study Abroad, International Honors Program, or SIT Graduate Institute in their estate plans.

Infinity Club members are individuals and/or couples who have taken the following steps to provide for planned gifts of any size to World Learning:

  • informed World Learning of their plans to make a bequest to benefit World Learning through their will, living trust or estate plan
  • informed World Learning that they have designated in writing World Learning as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy
  • established a charitable gift annuity, charitable remainder trust or charitable lead trust to benefit World Learning
  • made a gift of a paid-up or in-force life insurance policy with full ownership rights to World Learning
  • made a gift of personal residence or farm to World Learning with a retained life estate
  • made certain other gifts that may be recognized with Infinity Club membership
